Since the University of Florida’s cycling team was founded in 1985, it’s been a student-run club. There are some varsity programs in collegiate cycling—with a university-paid team and coach—but UF Cycling Club in Gainesville, Florida has always sponsored itself through student-led fundraising. Starting in 2025, Matthew Scarborough and Bike Accident Law will be sponsoring the team so students can spend less time fundraising and more time enjoying the sport they love.

When Matt Scarborough and Joella Nicole invited me to Lifetime Unbound Gravel 2025, I could see excitement glistening in their eyes. I did not yet have a grasp of the significance of this event, or why I would visit the Flint Hills of Kansas. But I leaned into the unknown and flew East.

This weekend I went up to Echo, Oregon, for mountain bike racing at the annual Echo Red To Red XC race. It was 31 miles of mountain biking, with 2900 ft. of elevation gain. The individuals from Echo have cut some super cool trails out there and the race has been happening for almost 20 years!

After many months of planning and putting in the work, somewhat quietly at home, the 2025 season has finally begun with a good start. I went down to Rock Cobbler in Bakersfield, CA this past weekend, which is also probably the strangest event there is, not often do you race through restaurants and people's living rooms, but also have massive hike-a-bikes.
